What Foil Pouches Are Used For

Judging by the name alone, a foil pouch is not an ordinary plastic bag — in performance it goes a step further than one. So when you need to refrigerate food, or to pack food up at short notice, and at the same time want the shelf life to be kept as long as possible, which kind of packaging bag should you choose? Instead of agonising over the choice, a foil pouch is a suitable option. It is not an ordinary plastic bag, and in several respects it performs better than one.

A typical foil pouch has a matte, low-gloss surface, meaning that it does not absorb light. It is made in multiple layers, so it offers both good light blocking and strong barrier properties. Because aluminium is part of its composition, it also has good oil resistance and softness, and the hand feel is clearly different from that of an ordinary film bag.

Today, as counterfeit and substandard products keep being exposed, and especially as safety incidents involving plastic bags make the news, what people worry about first is no longer what a package can do, but whether it is safe. As far as foil pouches are concerned, consumers can set their minds at ease: they are non-toxic and have no particular odour, they are a green and environmentally sound product, and they meet national hygiene standards.

Structurally, foil pouches usually adopt a four-layer construction with good water and oxygen barrier performance. There is no restriction on specifications either — bags can be made to measure in different sizes and styles, as flat pouches or as stand-up pouches, gusseted pouches and more, to suit different filling and display needs.

It should be noted that different uses call for different structures and specifications. Refrigerated packing, long-term storage and protection from light each place the emphasis somewhere else, so when choosing a pouch it is best to consider the properties of the contents together with the storage conditions.
