Pratt has a fortune of 13.14 billion Australian dollars, surpassing business figures such as Gina Rinehart, Frank Lowy and James Packer. In the 10 years since the death of his father (the late billionaire Richard Pratt), Pratt has been at the helm of Visy and its US sister company Pratt Industries. He has seen the family business's revenue and profits double.
Now, Mr. Pratt spends half of his time in Melbourne (where Visy is headquartered), and the rest of his time in the United States. Over the past decade, Pratt Industries has developed rapidly in the United States, mainly operating paper mills and carton manufacturing plants in the country's old industrial regions (which voted most heavily for Trump in the last US presidential election).
He said that becoming Australia's richest person has brought him into contact with more powerful and influential people. He quoted the 1980s rock singer David Lee Roth: "Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy a yacht big enough to pull up alongside it."
