The production digital printing machines listed in the Catalogue increased from 151 in the 2011 edition to 247 in the 2012 edition. As a supporting document to the 'Measures for the Administration of Digital Printing' issued by the Administration in January 2011, the Catalogue further unified the criteria for identifying production digital printing machines and clarified the basis for approving digital printing enterprises.

The Catalogue stipulates that, in light of the current development of digital printing technology, production digital printing machines as defined in the 'Measures for the Administration of Digital Printing' shall meet the following conditions: sheet-fed production color digital printing machines must have a speed of no less than 60 pages/minute (A4), a monthly duty cycle of no less than 150,000 pages (A4) and a physical resolution of no less than 600dpi×600dpi; sheet-fed production monochrome digital printing machines must have a speed of no less than 100 pages/minute (A4), a monthly duty cycle of no less than 1 million pages (A4) and a physical resolution of no less than 300dpi×300dpi; continuous-feed production color and monochrome digital printing machines must have a physical resolution of no less than 300dpi×300dpi and a monthly duty cycle no lower than that required of sheet-fed digital printing machines; and all types of production digital printing machines shall be equipped with a corresponding digital workflow.
