Roundup of Packaging Paper Projects Coming Online in 2021 (Incomplete Count): Capacity Surges by More Than 6 Million Tonnes
Following the addition of 7 million tonnes of new papermaking capacity and 46 million tonnes of planned capacity in China in 2020, 2021 was another big year for China's paper industry. On one hand, paper prices kept soaring and paper mills earned enormous profits; on the other hand, booming exports and the national wave of plastic bans and restrictions greatly boosted market confidence.
At the same time, companies in the paper industry rushed to launch new projects, with investments routinely reaching tens of billions of yuan, a rarity in the world. After many years in which market demand stalled at 100 million tonnes, new papermaking capacity is surging, as if welcoming another golden 30 years.
In 2021, according to incomplete statistics, the paper industry added more than 6 million tonnes of packaging paper capacity, and even more capacity will come on stream in 2022!
