[ppzhan summary] A working meeting on the review of printing standards was recently held in Beijing, with more than 30 experts and scholars from all over the country attending. It was later decided that 27 standards (including 25 industry standards and 2 national standards) would be terminated.

From September 22 to 25, 2013, the National Technical Committee for Printing Standardization (SAC/TC170) held the Working Meeting on the Review of Printing Standards in Beijing. The meeting was organized in accordance with the unified arrangements of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and the Standardization Administration of China. More than 30 experts and scholars from all over the country attended the four-day meeting in groups, and Cai Jingsheng, a researcher-level official of the Science and Technology Department of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, attended the meeting to guide the work. The meeting reviewed a total of 82 printing-related national standards and press and publication industry standards that were more than five years old, that is, it re-evaluated the applicability of the standards, and finally confirmed that 23 standards (including 12 industry standards and 11 national standards) remain valid, 4 national standards remain valid with modifications, 29 standards (including 13 industry standards and 16 national standards) need to be revised, and 27 standards (including 25 industry standards and 2 national standards) are terminated.

This meeting was the first systematic sorting out of existing standards since the establishment of SAC/TC170 in 1991. After the meeting, SAC/TC170 will, based on the conclusions of the meeting, carry out revision work on the 29 standards successively over the next few years. Through this review work, the nearly 30 printing-related standards that are retained will be more streamlined, and future newly developed projects will also focus on the practicality and applicability of standards.
