New Environmental Standards for Plastics to Take Effect from March Next Year

Published:2021-04-16 · Industry News

[ppzhan Abstract] Recently, the State Environmental Protection Administration published new environmental protection standards for 10 kinds of products, including three kinds of plastic products: recycled plastic products, foamed plastics and plastic doors and windows.

According to the Environmental Protection Administration, in order to implement the 'Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China', reduce the impact of plastic products on the environment and human health during consumption and use, save energy, reduce environmental pollution, lower raw material consumption and improve resource utilization, the Environmental Development Center of the State Environmental Protection Administration drafted three new environmental protection standards for plastic products - 'Technical Requirement for Environmental Labeling Products - Recycled Plastic Products' (HJ/T231-2006), 'Technical Requirement for Environmental Labeling Products - Foamed Plastics' (HJ/T233-2006) and 'Technical Requirement for Environmental Labeling Products - Plastic Doors and Windows' (HJ/T237-2006) - which were approved on January 6.

Besides comprehensively revising the technical content of the original standards, the new standards further emphasize reducing pollutant emissions and safeguarding human health, and will play a positive role in promoting technological progress in the above three types of plastic products.

The new standards take effect on March 1 next year; after that, the corresponding old standards will be abolished at the same time, and only products conforming to the new environmental standards may bear the environmental labeling product mark; continuing to display the old mark will be regarded as counterfeiting. It is understood that environmental labeling products are issued to the relevant manufacturers by the relevant departments after certification in accordance with specific environmental standards, proving that their consumption and use processes fully meet environmental protection requirements and are conducive to resource regeneration and recycling.
