Printing Eco-Label Standard Officially Takes Effect Today
[Summary]
According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China, the standard "National Environmental Protection Standard / Technical Requirement for Environmental Labeling Products – Printing", developed by the Environmental Development Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection (China-Japan Friendship Center for Environmental Protection) with the participation of the Printing Technology Association of China, the Beijing Green Cause Culture Development Center and other organizations, was officially approved by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and promulgated for implementation as of today.
Since the second half of 2009, the Printing Technology Association of China and the Certification Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection have conducted surveys in Guangdong, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Beijing and other places to learn about the state of the printing industry. At the same time, they collected materials on the implementation of green printing in developed countries and consulted Chinese printing export enterprises about overseas environmental requirements for printed products. On this basis, they began drafting a printing environmental labeling standard suited to the current situation of China's printing industry. The drafting group specially engaged senior printing experts to take part in the drafting work. After soliciting opinions on multiple occasions, testing the data repeatedly and revising the draft again and again, the draft for review of the standard was finally completed.
The reporter learned from the Printing Technology Association of China that after the printing environmental labeling standard is officially promulgated and implemented, mechanisms for testing printed products and auditing enterprises under the framework of environmental labeling product certification still need to be established, so as to gradually improve the green printing evaluation system. Starting in the second half of 2011, relevant certification work will be carried out among printing enterprises nationwide in accordance with the standard, and the first batch of environmental labeling products in China's printing industry will then come into being.
In September last year, the General Administration of Press and Publication and the Ministry of Environmental Protection formally signed in Beijing the "Cooperation Agreement on Implementing the Green Printing Strategy". In line with the principles of "comprehensive advancement, breakthroughs at key points, innovative mechanisms and strengthened supervision", the agreement vigorously promotes the development of green printing in China. The official promulgation of the standard "National Environmental Protection Standard / Technical Requirement for Environmental Labeling Products – Printing" is of far-reaching significance for improving the green printing evaluation system and advancing the implementation of China's green printing strategy, marking that green printing in China has entered the stage of concrete implementation.
