Consumer Association Urges Shoppers to Choose Simply Packaged Mooncakes and Embrace Low-Carbon Consumption
With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, the mooncake consumer market is gradually heating up, and mooncake products in all kinds of exquisite packaging are flooding into the market. The Qinghai Consumers Association recently issued an initiative: when choosing mooncakes, consumers should actively practise the green and low-carbon consumption concept and buy more simply packaged and lightly packaged mooncakes.
In recent years, under the call to practise economy and oppose waste, Mid-Autumn mooncakes have gradually returned to their food attributes. But reporters found in interviews that some mooncake products still have excessive packaging pursuing luxurious appearance, and many mooncakes still pursue "ornamental" value more than "edible" value.
After searching for keywords such as "premium mooncakes" on online shopping platforms, the reporter saw mooncake products with special packaging designs such as various drawers, bamboo baskets and suitcases. Some mooncakes sold offline in Xining also include products packaged in 4 or 5 layers of inner boxes, sealed bags, individual packaging boxes and gift boxes.
Industry insiders said that excessively packaged products not only cost consumers money needlessly, but also cause unnecessary waste of resources in the production of product packaging, and produce large amounts of packaging waste after use.
The Qinghai Consumers Association proposes that consumers should consume rationally when choosing mooncakes and practise the green and low-carbon consumption concept. At the same time, mooncake manufacturers should innovate in the taste, raw materials, nutrition and culture of their products, strengthen environmental protection concepts in packaging design, and convey the cultural connotations carried by Mid-Autumn mooncakes.
The Qinghai Consumers Association reminds that for "functional" mooncakes marketed with "sugar-free" and "low-fat" gimmicks, consumers should confirm the food's ingredients and formulation, discriminate carefully and buy rationally. When buying mooncakes online, consumers should choose formal online platforms to avoid buying expired or inferior mooncakes. Before purchase they should carefully ask the merchant about the mooncakes' shelf life and production date; because mailing takes time, they should not buy mooncakes that are about to expire. After buying mooncakes they should ask for and keep relevant receipts and vouchers, so that in the event of a consumption dispute they can complain to relevant departments and consumer associations and protect their legitimate rights and interests.
