Flexible packaging promotes the development of the pharmaceutical industry and gains huge market momentum

In recent years, the domestic flexible packaging industry has made continuous progress, which has greatly promoted the development of the pharmaceutical, food and daily chemical industries. In turn, the development of the pharmaceutical and other industries has further driven demand for the flexible packaging market, giving the flexible packaging industry tremendous market momentum.

Packaging whose container shape can change. At present, the market mainly offers various bags, boxes, sleeves and wraps made of paper, aluminum foil, fiber, plastic film and their composites. In the packaging industry, flexible packaging refers to packaging after filling or removing the contents. With vivid colors, rich functions and diverse forms of expression, flexible packaging has become one of the most important packaging formats for shelf sales. Authoritative institutions predict that within the next five years, the global flexible packaging market will grow at an annual rate of 3.5%, and its output value is expected to reach USD 231 billion by 2018. As the world's second largest packaging country, China must naturally keep pace with this development.

The domestic flexible packaging industry has grown from small to large and developed rapidly; flexible packaging started in China 20 years ago. It shows an obvious trend toward group-scale and large-scale operations. At present, mainland China alone has about 400 imported gravure flexible packaging production lines and nearly 1,000 domestic wide-format high-speed gravure flexible packaging production lines, and the manufacturing level of these lines has approached or reached that of developed countries. At the same time, world-class printing companies are accelerating their development in China through absolute controlling stakes, building wholly owned production enterprises and holding companies, and merging and acquiring China's leading enterprises. For example, Amcor, a global packaging giant, spent 350 million yuan to acquire the flexible packaging business of Jiangsu Shenda Group. As the packaging market with the greatest potential, China will naturally attract foreign investment, which presents both opportunities and challenges for China's flexible color-printing enterprises.

Like other packaging, flexible packaging must consider the three elements of packaging, namely safety, convenience and aesthetics (display and promotion). After more than 20 years of development, China's flexible packaging industry has made great progress, especially in the aesthetics of flexible packaging, where it has reached a world-leading level. However, in terms of the safety of flexible packaging, China's flexible packaging industry still has certain problems and needs to make continuous efforts.

Flexible packaging enterprises must keep up with changes in market demand, adjust their product structure in a timely manner, direct resources toward areas of higher efficiency, and achieve product differentiation. At the same time, they must pay more attention to energy saving, consumption reduction and emission reduction, and new safety-oriented business concepts are driving more flexible packaging enterprises toward standardized operation.
