Gravure Printing Standard Officially Implemented on December 1
Editor's note: The Ministry of Environmental Protection of China recently issued an announcement officially releasing "Technical Requirement for Environmental Labelling Products - Printing, Part 3: Gravure Printing", standard number HJ2539-2014, which came into force on December 1, 2014.
It is reported that this is the third green printing standard officially promulgated and implemented in China's printing industry, following the release of the "Offset Printing" and "Commercial Forms Printing" standards, which means that gravure printing companies are about to embark on a green printing journey.
Over the more than 20 years of reform and opening up, along with the continuous development of the market economy, and in particular the rapid development of industries such as food, beverages, cigarettes, pharmaceuticals, health products, cosmetics, cleaning products and clothing, demand for gravure-printed products has kept growing. With quality requirements rising ever higher, China's gravure printing industry has developed rapidly, growing from nothing into a substantial sector. According to incomplete statistics, the total number of gravure printing and related enterprises in China now exceeds 7,000. There are more than 5,000 flexible packaging gravure printing companies mainly engaged in food packaging printing, with an output value of 250 billion yuan.
At present, the Chinese economy has entered a low-carbon era, and public environmental awareness is gradually increasing. Gravure printing is a printing method with excellent results. Thanks to its rich and clear gradations, thick ink layer, even ink coverage, high saturation and bright, vivid colors, it is widely used in the packaging printing sector, which is closely related to people's daily lives. However, the drawbacks of gravure printing are as prominent as its advantages, and its environmental impact has long been criticized by society. The release of the "Gravure Printing" standard is of great significance in guiding China's gravure industry to transform and develop in the direction of energy saving, emission reduction and environmental protection.
