On March 1, 2011, the National Printing Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC170) convened the first joint working meeting of the drafting groups for two national standards on digital printing in Beijing. The meeting was chaired by Secretary-General Li An. More than 10 experts and scholars from Shanghai Publishing and Printing College, Peking University Founder Group, the Shanghai Digital Printing Industry Association, the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Canon (China) Co., Ltd., Beijing Ziguang Graphic Systems Co., Ltd., Kodak (China) Investment Co., Ltd., Shanghai Tongkun Digital Printing Co., Ltd., and Nantong Yuanda Color Printing & Packaging Co., Ltd., among others, attended the meeting. Peking University Founder Group provided strong support for the meeting.

The meeting discussed the content of the first draft prepared by the drafting groups for the two national standards on digital printing, namely "Printing Technology Terminology: Digital Printing" and "Classification of Digital Printing". In accordance with the state's principles and methods for developing terminology standards, the meeting carefully screened the number and categories of terms in "Printing Technology Terminology: Digital Printing", streamlining the 509 drafted terms to 105. The meeting also carefully studied and analyzed the specific content of "Classification of Digital Printing" and made corresponding revisions to the content in line with national standard development requirements and the actual situation in the digital printing field, reducing the nine-category classification method for digital printing to five categories. The meeting decided to hold the second joint working meeting of the drafting groups for the two national standards on digital printing in May 2011 at Shanghai Publishing and Printing College, where the second drafts of the standards would be discussed.

Developing digital printing standards is one of the important measures taken by China's printing industry to regulate and guide the sound and sustainable development of the digital printing industry, and it has long been a major work objective of the industry. The National Printing Standardization Technical Committee attaches great importance to the study and development of digital printing standards, and it is expected that work will also be launched this year on the development of two more national standards on digital printing: "Quality Requirements and Inspection Methods for Digital Printing Products" and "Requirements and Test Methods for Digital Hard Proofing Systems".
