National Carbon-Reduction Standard for Packaging and Paper Industry to Be Issued and Implemented in 2011
ppzhan news:
Some industry experts believe that, in the future, the packaging paper industry, by virtue of the recyclability of paper packaging, will benefit from the introduction of national standards on packaging carbon reduction.
According to Paper Packaging Industry, as of January 1, 2011, there will be national standards to follow for the prevention of packaging waste at source, packaging reuse and the recycling and regeneration of packaging materials.
In August this year, the Standardization Administration of China issued the "Announcement No. 3 of 2010 on the Approval of National Standards", which includes six standards related to packaging and the environment. These six standards are respectively:"
Packaging and Packaging Waste — Part 2: Evaluation Methods and Procedures (GB/T16716.2-2010)
Packaging and Packaging Waste — Part 3: Prevention by Source Reduction (GB/T16716.3-2010)
Packaging and Packaging Waste — Part 4: Reuse (GB/T16716.4-2010)
Packaging and Packaging Waste — Part 5: Material Recycling (GB/T16716.5-2010)
Packaging Recycling Mark (GB/T18455-2010)
Packaging and the Environment — Terminology (GB/T23156-2010)
The announcement points out that all six standards are recommended national standards, among which Packaging Recycling Mark is a revision of the 2001 edition while the other five are newly formulated standards.
One of the principal drafters of these six standards, the head of the Science and Technology Division of the China Export Commodity Packaging Research Institute, said that the introduction of this batch of standards is intended to reduce resource consumption in the packaging industry and to lessen the impact of discarded packaging on the environment.
It is worth noting that both the newly formulated and the revised standards refer to or identically adopt the relevant European standards.
The requirements of these six standards on packaging carbon reduction cover the entire process of packaging production, distribution and recycling.
The Packaging and Packaging Waste standard proposes that technical measures such as prevention at source, reuse and recycling be applied to rationally utilize and handle packaging waste and to reduce emissions to the environment during waste treatment.
