2021 Global Corrugated Industry Awards: First Look at the Outstanding Shortlisted Entries, Part Three

Published:2021-07-05 · Industry News

The grand occasion of the first "Global Corrugated Awards" (WCA) held in 2019 is still vivid in our memory; the competition not only won recognition and support from corrugated packaging industry peers around the world, but also drew enthusiastic registrations. Through six months of intense competition and a rigorous selection process, six enterprises and individual representatives from China, Germany and Saudi Arabia ultimately won, receiving honors witnessed by more than 300 guests on site.

This year, since the launch of the second "2021 Global Corrugated Awards," it has again received enthusiastic response from the corrugated packaging industry. Reed Exhibitions, together with global corrugated carton and packaging industry associations, jointly established the "Global Corrugated Awards Organizing Committee," and also joined hands with the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), striving to make this competition a highly professional and authoritative event that is fair, just and open. What enterprises can gain is not only honor, but also much added value.

The judging committee is composed of authoritative international packaging industry experts, including Peter van Ostaijen, Secretary-General of the Belgian Corrugated Board Association (CBA); Varna Sudasna, Vice Chairman of the Thai Packaging Association (TPA); Fabian Oscar Vinderola, packaging expert at Argentina's Cartocor SA; and Cao Cuishuang, Chairman of the Expert Committee of the China International Corrugated Exhibition, among others.

Appreciation of some shortlisted works, Series Three

The "2021 Global Corrugated Awards" are divided into three major categories: innovation, enterprise management, and social value. Among them, the innovation category includes the Best Design Innovation Award, Best Material Innovation Award and Best Innovative Marketing Case Award; the enterprise management category includes the Best Risk Control Award, Best New Plant Planning Award and Best New-Generation Professional Manager Award; and the third category, social value, includes the Environmental Protection and Intensive Production Contribution Award and the Humanism Practice Award — eight awards in total.

Many enterprises in the corrugated industry have responded and actively participated; as of now we have received hundreds of submitted products, projects or outstanding corporate managers' cases, with enthusiastic reader response. Here we continue to select several outstanding shortlisted works to introduce for our readers.

Social value category: Environmental Protection Contribution Award

Shortlisted enterprise: Klingele Paper & Packaging Group

Nominated case: AROMAGLUT

Klingele is one of the leading independent manufacturers of paper, corrugated board packaging solutions and adhesives. Klingele and its customer AROMAGLUT jointly developed a corrugated packaging solution for barbecue vine charcoal. Thanks to its environmental friendliness, stability and local design, the cardboard packaging is very suitable for high-quality consumer products. The FSC-certified packaging is made from 100% renewable raw materials — 90% from recycled paper and 10% from sustainable forest products. The box is manufactured using renewable energy and features excellent recyclability and full biodegradability.

The novel design is not only practical but also eye-catching. The sturdy, stackable shipping box packs a filling weight of 5.6 kg. When delivered to sales partners on pallets, the packaging reliably protects the product. The packaging is easy to handle: the vine charcoal requires no stabilizers or outer packaging filler, so the vine charcoal can be cut and immediately boxed. Printing in five colors plus gloss varnish drew a great deal of attention at the point of sale and also communicated AROMAGLUT's quality standards to the outside world.
