Leaders and guests attending the event included Wang Li, Vice President of the China Packaging Federation; Han Xueshan, Vice President and Executive Secretary-General; Yang Bicong, Secretary-General of the Social Responsibility Committee of Meituan Waimai; Tian Jin, Project Director of Meituan Waimai's Qingshan Plan; Wang Yonggang, Vice President of the Plastics Branch of the China National Resources Recycling Association; and Wang Zhanjie, Vice Chairman of the China Plastics Processing Industry Association. Wang Li, Vice President of the China Packaging Federation, and Yang Bicong, Secretary-General of the Social Responsibility Committee of Meituan Waimai, each delivered opening speeches. The event was moderated by Mr. Wang Wenjie, Assistant Vice President of Reed Exhibitions Greater China.

Speech by Wang Li, Vice President of the China Packaging Federation

In his speech, Wang Li said that in recent years, with the rapid development of the food delivery industry, the environmental problems brought by single-use plastic packaging have become a focus of social attention, and the food delivery industry faces a green transformation. In January 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment jointly issued the "Opinions on Further Strengthening the Treatment of Plastic Pollution." More and more new environmental policies also require the food delivery industry to implement the concept of green development and promote the greening of food delivery packaging, so as to drive the sustained and healthy development of the industry.

Wang Li said that the China Packaging Federation, as the national-level industry organization of China's packaging industry, has always made building a market-oriented green technology innovation system, encouraging R&D of green and low-carbon technologies, and accelerating the transformation of scientific and technological achievements one of its important tasks.

As one of the organizers of the China Packaging Container Exhibition, we, together with Reed Exhibitions, jointly support Meituan's Qingshan Plan in launching the second Green Packaging Directory solicitation. At the same time, to promote the green, low-carbon and sustainable development of the food delivery industry, the China Packaging Federation will support the "Innovation China – Meituan Qingshan Environmental Technology Innovation Demonstration Project" initiated and established by Meituan, providing support in terms of expert resources, project recommendation, achievement implementation, publicity and promotion, in the hope of promoting environmental protection through technology and leading innovation through demonstration, jointly guiding and promoting the green, low-carbon and sustainable development of the food delivery industry, helping achieve the carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals and jointly building a beautiful China.

Wang Li stressed that he hopes packaging enterprises will actively participate in the activity and present more scientific and technological achievements and green demonstration projects to society.

Speech by Yang Bicong, Secretary-General of the Social Responsibility Committee of Meituan Waimai

Subsequently, Tian Jin, Director of Meituan Waimai's Qingshan Plan, Wang Yonggang, Vice President of the Plastics Branch of the China National Resources Recycling Association, and Wang Zhanjie, Vice Chairman of the China Plastics Processing Industry Association, each delivered keynote speeches.

At the same time as the event, the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement for the Meituan Qingshan Science and Technology Innovation Demonstration Project was successfully held, witnessed by Wang Yuezhong, Executive Vice President of the China Packaging Federation, Han Xueshan, Vice President and Executive Secretary-General, as well as many attending leaders, guests and audience members.

The Qingshan Plan is the industry's first action plan focusing on environmental protection, launched by Meituan Waimai on August 31, 2017. It is committed to advancing solutions to environmental protection issues in the food delivery industry, promoting the greening of the industry from four aspects: advocating environmental concepts, researching environmental paths, exploring scientific closed loops, and advancing environmental public welfare. In the past four years, the Qingshan Plan has carried out a great deal of practice, establishing more than 1,000 pilot projects for the recycling and regeneration of food delivery containers, gathering 500,000 charitable merchants, reaching 1.1 billion person-times online with environmental advocacy, and setting up the RMB 500 million public-interest Meituan Qingshan Science and Technology Fund.

The "Green Packaging Directory" and the "Science and Technology Innovation Demonstration Project" are a small step in Meituan's long-term investment to help the industry's green transformation and the marketization of technological innovation. Meituan will also continue to invest and join hands with partners in the packaging industry to jointly build a low-carbon economic future for the industry, supporting a better life and a more beautiful nature.
