Zhejiang Moves to Fully Implement Green Product Certification System for Express Packaging

Published:2021-08-23 · Industry News

Recently, Zhejiang Province held an on-site promotion meeting for green product certification of express packaging. It was pointed out at the meeting that Zhejiang Province will comprehensively promote the implementation of the green product certification system for express packaging, with the goal of fully establishing the supporting standards and implementation supervision system for green packaging in the express delivery industry by the end of 2023.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Zhejiang Provincial Administration for Market Regulation, the province's express delivery industry has developed rapidly in recent years, with express business volume and business revenue steadily ranking second in the country. Statistics from the State Post Bureau show that in 2020, Zhejiang Province's express business volume was 17.95 billion pieces, accounting for 21.5% of the national total; each person had 5 express deliveries per week on average, ranking first in the country in per capita express volume. A large amount of express packaging is consumed every day, generating a large amount of express packaging waste.

In order to thoroughly implement the development philosophy that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and the Zhejiang Provincial Government have made it clear that they will vigorously promote green product certification in Zhejiang Province and encourage the procurement and use of green products. Relevant work has also achieved excellent results. As of now, the total number of various green product certification certificates in Zhejiang Province has exceeded 700, including 7 green product certification certificates for express packaging, accounting for 24.1% of the national total.

This year, the Zhejiang Provincial Administration for Market Regulation, the Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission and 6 other departments also jointly issued the "Implementation Opinions on Strengthening the Standardization of Green Express Packaging", with the goal that by the end of 2022, new green models such as express packaging reduction, green recycling and green logistics will be widely promoted. By the end of 2023, the supporting standards and implementation supervision system for green packaging in the express delivery industry will be fully established, supporting remarkable results in reducing, greening and recycling express packaging; non-degradable plastic tape at postal and express outlets within the province will be fully banned; the use rate of recyclable express transfer bags will exceed 90%; and the application proportion of tape-free cartons will reach more than 10% of total carton usage.

It is understood that products that can currently undergo green product certification for express packaging include envelopes, packaging boxes, packaging bags, container bags, electronic waybills, plant-based fillers, plastic fillers, suspended fastening packaging, tape, reusable express packaging, etc.
