Man Scammed While Buying Cartons Online; Police Officer's Blunt Long-Distance Shout-Out Recovers His Losses

Published:2021-09-27 · Industry News

"3,500 yuan—I've run out of patience!" Recently, Xiaojie, who lives in Nixi Town, Dongzhi County, Anhui Province, was defrauded while buying packaging cartons online; a police officer's hard-line long-distance call made the other side obediently refund the money.

Online purchase of cartons defrauded

On June 16, Xiaojie saw an advertisement online for an enterprise selling paper packaging cartons at a low price. Considering that he runs a daily chemicals production business and usually needs large quantities of packaging cartons, he added the other party using the contact details in the advertisement and reached a packaging carton purchase and sale contract worth about 3,500 yuan.

Won over by the other party's sweet talk, the unguarded Xiaojie quickly transferred 3,500 yuan. Unexpectedly, after receiving the money the other party disappeared, neither shipping the goods nor replying to messages. Realising he might have been defrauded, on July 14 Xiaojie came to the Nixi Police Station of the Dongzhi County Public Security Bureau to report the case and ask for help.

After learning the ins and outs of the matter, the police officers of the Nixi Police Station concluded that the other party was suspected of fraud, and that this was not a difficult or complex type of scam, so there was a good chance of getting the money back.

Police issue a long-distance call to recover the loss

When the police officers tried to contact the other party using Xiaojie's WeChat, they found that Xiaojie's WeChat had already been blocked by the fraudster, so the officers pretended to be a customer to gain the other party's trust and successfully added their WeChat.

After adding, the officers quickly identified themselves, but the other party made various excuses to put them off. The officers then made a voice call and said: "I am a police officer from the police station. You are suspected of fraud and have violated the Criminal Law. Return the money immediately, otherwise we will spare no effort to catch you."

The officer's warning clearly overawed the other party, who soon returned the money. After receiving the money, Xiaojie repeatedly thanked the officers of the Nixi Police Station: "Thank you officers, really thank you. I didn't dare tell my family I had been defrauded of 3,500 yuan. Thank you so much!"
