Analysis of the situation and potential of the Central and South American flexible packaging market
By 2015, the flexible
packaging market value of Central and South America will reach USD 5.3 billion, with an average annual growth rate expected to be 4.6%. This report also explains the main reasons for the growth in market value: the continuous expansion of the supermarket retail sector, the continuous increase in population, working women, and young consumers' love for flexible packaging products have all contributed to the growth of the flexible packaging market value to a certain extent. Since 2005, affected by the sustained growth of the local economy, the infrastructure and food processing industry in Central and South America have developed rapidly.
It is reported that the flexible packaging market value of Central and South America has currently reached USD 4.3 billion, with an annual growth rate of about 5.3%. Among this, the demand for flexible packaging in Brazil grew by 48%, while Colombia and Argentina together increased by 67%.
At present, the Brazilian food industry has already met the "modernized" international standards, and 40% of food is delivered through various channels to the homes of about 200 million people. It is estimated that this kind of demand will grow substantially during major international events such as the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
It is reported that the demand for flexible packaging in Brazil mainly relies on domestic manufacturers, with only 1% relying on imports and 2% exported to other countries in Central and South America. Among them, PET flexible film still imports equipment maintenance and servicing from China and India, while locally there are a large number of BOPP and PE film manufacturers, but PET film is produced in only one region.
The relevant person in charge of PCI Films said that at present local enterprises in Central and South America mainly serve the local flexible packaging market, and some enterprises with diversified businesses still hope to expand their business through the local market, including alliances or acquisitions of other local enterprises.
