China's National Standard for Electronic Labels Released

Published:2021-04-16 · Industry News

[ppzhan abstract] With the support of technology, electronic tags have become an important development direction for China's label printing industry. In order to advance China's independent radio frequency identification industry and play an important role in accelerating the building of the Internet of Things, China has issued the national standard for RFID (electronic tags), "Information Technology - Radio Frequency Identification - 800/900MHz Air Interface Protocol".

Recently, the national standard for RFID (electronic tags), "Information Technology - Radio Frequency Identification - 800/900MHz Air Interface Protocol", was released. Industry insiders say that the air interface protocol is the core technology of RFID, and that the release of the new national standard will resolve the previous problem that interfaces of technology products could not be unified, and will play an important role in advancing China's independent radio frequency identification industry and accelerating the building of the Internet of Things.

RFID (electronic tags) is the core infrastructure of the Internet of Things industry and one of the important target markets that enterprises are racing to enter. However, a national RFID standard with China's own intellectual property had long been absent. Industry insiders say that the introduction of this national standard gives China's RFID industry a core voice in the competition.

It is understood that the new national RFID standard took two years to formulate and was jointly developed by the Electronic Industry Standardization Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology together with relevant domestic industry, academic, research and user organizations. Wang Lijian, deputy chief engineer of the Electronic Industry Standardization Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, introduced that the "air interface protocol" is the core technology of RFID, and that the place where giants are most densely positioned is the same 800/900MHz frequency band as the new national standard. In this frequency band, more than 600 core patents have been published globally so far, while all other frequency bands have fewer than a few dozen.

Wang Lijian said that the national standard released this time embodies 30 core patents based on independent innovation, and that foreign enterprises wanting to enter the Chinese market will find it hard to bypass this group. Although the gap between "30" and "600" remains obvious in the comparison of domestic and foreign numbers, the new national standard has already secured considerable voice for China's independent RFID technology and industry to take part in competition.

In fact, the issue of a national RFID standard has long received attention within the industry, especially in sectors such as logistics and food traceability that require extensive use of RFID technology and urgently need relevant standards to regulate the market. Due to the absence of a national standard, the industry has been chaotic, product standards vary from place to place, and this has seriously constrained the development of China's RFID industry.

There are currently 5 major RFID standards. The establishment of China's national RFID standard can, on the one hand, reduce spending and market promotion costs for domestic enterprises, and on the other hand, help safeguard domestic information security, which is highly conducive to promoting the development of the domestic RFID industry. Analysts say that in recent years, benefiting from the rapid rise of the Internet of Things, RFID has developed rapidly; the RFID market exceeded 120 billion yuan in 2012 and will continue to grow in the coming years.

Looking at listed companies in China, quite a number are engaged in RFID business: for example, Invengo, Newland and Zhongrui Sicho are all engaged in RFID research and development, and companies such as Eastcompeace and Zhongshan Dahua also focus a considerable part of their business on the RFID field. These enterprises have mastered the core technologies of RFID, and the vast majority of domestic RFID patents were applied for by them; they hold a pivotal position in China's RFID field. We look forward to them winning more voice for China's RFID on the international stage!
