Corrugated Paper Prices Weaken Further as Domestic Recovered Paper Slides Sharply

Published:2021-11-19 · Industry News

On November 18, SunSirs said in its analysis that corrugated paper prices continued to decline; leading paper mills had originally planned to raise base paper prices on the 16th but postponed the move to December 1, and bearish sentiment in the market is growing. Prices at some large paper enterprises in Central and South China fell by 100-150 yuan/tonne, and with no clear improvement in order intake at downstream paper mills, purchasing has been mostly cautious. As of November 18, the price of 140g corrugated paper was 4,120 yuan/tonne. Demand in the corrugated paper market is currently weak, and corrugated paper prices are expected mainly to fluctuate downward in the short term.

At the same time, the domestic waste paper market has declined markedly in recent days, and the decline is spreading.

According to Fubao Information, large paper enterprises led the market lower on November 18, with Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangsu following the adjustments; large mills in North China held steady, most mills in Hebei and Hubei cut prices by 20-50 yuan/tonne, and in South China and Southwest China only Dongguan Jintian raised prices by 30 yuan/tonne. Nine Dragons' Taicang base cut prices by 50 yuan/tonne today, quoting Grade A yellow board paper at 2,460 yuan/tonne; Shanying's Zhangzhou base cut prices by 50 yuan/tonne today, quoting Grade B yellow board paper at 2,520 yuan/tonne; Lee & Man's Jiujiang base cut prices by 30 yuan/tonne today, quoting Grade 1 paper at 2,530 yuan/tonne.

Fubao Information data show that the national waste paper index was 2,522.2 on the 18th, unchanged from November 1. The national domestic waste paper market has declined markedly, with nearly 60 paper enterprises cutting paper prices. Recently, overall arrivals at mills have remained high, paper enterprises' purchasing interest has declined, and coupled with insufficient demand for finished paper, support for waste paper is weak; the domestic waste paper market is expected to remain weak in the short term.
