Eight standards for packaging quality

Published:2026-09-03 · Industry News

There is currently no unified statement of "8 standards" for packaging quality. Different sources give different numbers of dimensions, usually summarized into 5-8 core aspects for evaluation.

Overall, packaging quality is mainly evaluated around the following aspects:

Protection: preventing physical damage (heat insulation, dust-proof, light-proof, oxygen-proof, moisture-proof), chemical changes (oxidation, deterioration, corrosion) and biological contamination (microorganisms) within the shelf life, as well as theft and counterfeiting.

Convenience and marketability: easy to carry, open and display, able to reflect product value and appeal.

Processing adaptability: materials are easy to form, packaging operations are simple, and the packaging is compatible with production processes.

Hygiene and safety: materials are non-toxic and harmless, do not migrate harmful substances, and safeguard consumer health.

Cost rationality: the combined cost of materials, operations and transport packaging should be reasonable.

Environmental friendliness: waste is easy to recycle and reuse, does not pollute the environment, and complies with green packaging regulations.

Outer packaging inspection also breaks down specific indicators such as a neat appearance, clear printing, dimensional accuracy, material strength (compression resistance, moisture resistance), sealing performance and functionality (easy opening, shockproof).

It is also worth noting that the mandatory national standard "Requirements for Limiting Excessive Express Packaging", effective from July 1, 2026, sets hard upper limits on three indicators for express packaging: box fit, number of packaging layers and tape usage. Failure to meet any one of them is judged as excessive packaging.
