Flexible packaging market: annual per capita consumption in the Middle East and Africa is under USD 3, only 5% of the global total
PCI Films Consulting recently released an in-depth report on the flexible packaging market in the Middle East and Africa.
The report points out that the Middle East and Africa account for 5% of the global flexible packaging market of USD 65 billion. Even so, relative to the region's population of 1.2 billion, annual per capita consumption is less than USD 3. The largest national markets are South Africa, Iran, Nigeria, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and these five countries account for more than 50% of the region's overall market share.
Recently many countries in Africa have seen strong economic growth and rising modernization, and the scale and level of food production have improved markedly in many parts of the region. From 2007 to 2010 the region's flexible packaging market maintained an average annual growth rate of 5%, and growth in 2010 reached as high as 7%. The report shows that growth in Nigeria, Egypt and Kenya was above the average growth rate, while South Africa, Morocco and Syria were significantly below the average growth rate.
The report also forecasts changes in demand in the region up to 2015.
