Solventless Lamination of BOPP//PE: Speckles on the White Ink but Not on Other Inks — How to Solve It?

Published:2017-05-03 · Industry News · Source: 包装前沿

Mr. Huang, Jiangxi Solventless Lamination: For solventless lamination of BOPP//PE with full-surface white ink, speckles appear on the white ink after curing, while other inks show none. How to solve it?

Chen Jianwen, Chengdu Xiongzhou: This is a mismatch between the ink and the adhesive.

Keyi (Nuoweike) Adhesive: Adjust the adhesive.

Mr. Huang, Jiangxi Solventless Lamination: Is it related to the adhesive coating weight?

Chen Jianwen, Chengdu Xiongzhou: These are bubbles.

Mr. Huang, Jiangxi Solventless Lamination: Yes, bubbles only in the white ink area. I photographed the front and back sides; coating weight 1.5gsm, OPP1.8//PE7.2.

Fan Zhiguo, Beijing Huateng: There were none right off the machine, right? Did they appear after curing?

Mr. Huang, Jiangxi Solventless Lamination: Correct.

Chen Jianwen, Chengdu Xiongzhou: The coating weight is too low. Increase it to at least 1.8gsm.

Yang, Weinan Printing Machinery: Check the coating weight, and also check whether the roller temperature is correct.

Fan Zhiguo, Beijing Huateng: That is one aspect; on the other hand, it is best to test the residual solvent of the printing.

Mr. Huang, Jiangxi Solventless Lamination: Lamination temperature 45℃, adhesive temperature 35℃.

Gao Zhen, Beijing Huateng Wanfuda: First check the opacity of the printed white ink; if the ink is thin or the ink particles are coarse, white spots will also appear. False drying of the print and excessively high residual solvent will also cause white spots. If the ink does not match the solventless adhesive, it will look fine right off the machine, but after curing, bubbles the size of peanut grains or mung beans will appear.
