Published:2021-04-16 · Industry News

The standardization organization (IS0) recently adopted a resolution approving the establishment of the IS0/TCl22/SC4 Packaging and Environment Technical Committee, with China and Sweden jointly taking on the joint secretariat; the China National Export Commodities Packaging Research Institute undertakes the work of the joint secretariat and also serves as the domestic counterpart unit of IS0/TCl22/SC4. This marks China's participation in and undertaking of the work of a packaging standardization technical committee, thereby expanding China's role and influence in the field of environmentally friendly packaging standardization and strongly enhancing the country's standing.

The work of the IS0/TCl22/SC4 Packaging and Environment Technical Committee will be devoted to developing IS0 standards, so as to achieve coordinated development of packaging and the environment, reduce the impact of packaging on the environment, and minimize the risk of technical barriers to trade.

As the environment faces ever more serious threats of pollution, paying attention to the impact of packaging on the environment has become a global consensus. The standardization of packaging and the environment will be based on this, and EU standards and Asian standards guidelines as well as Chinese national standards will serve as the starting point for future IS0 standards.

The China/Sweden joint secretariat will divide work and cooperate in project management, distribution of ISO documents, division of secretarial responsibilities and regional standardization work.
