Impressive: 4,600 Packaging Plants Generate 65 Billion Yuan in Annual Industrial Output

The reporter learned from the seventh meeting of the seventh council of the Wenzhou Packaging Federation held on August 26 that in 2020 the packaging industry realized a total industrial output value of about 65 billion yuan.

According to incomplete statistics from the Wenzhou Packaging Federation, Wenzhou currently has 4,620 packaging enterprises and 157,000 packaging enterprise employees. Among them there are 1,288 packaging machinery manufacturing enterprises (including food and beverage machinery, pharmaceutical machinery, cosmetics machinery, etc.), 1,157 papermaking and paper product enterprises, 487 plastic packaging enterprises and 1,688 packaging printing enterprises. In 2020, of the total industrial output value of about 65 billion yuan realized by the whole industry, 698 packaging enterprises above designated size realized a total industrial output value of 41.363 billion yuan.

According to sample data collected by the Wenzhou Packaging Federation from 24 member enterprises (10 packaging machinery enterprises and 14 paper product packaging enterprises), the total industrial output value of the 24 enterprises increased by 22% year on year in the first half of this year, sales revenue increased by 53% year on year, and total profit increased by 4% year on year. However, conditions differed greatly among different industries: the 10 packaging machinery enterprises saw their total industrial output value increase by 53% year on year, sales revenue increase by 57% year on year and total profit increase by 116% year on year. For the 14 paper packaging enterprises, the total industrial output value increased by 8% year on year, sales revenue increased by 51% year on year, and total profit was -34% year on year.

The Wenzhou Packaging Federation analyzed that over the past five years the Wenzhou packaging industry has given full play to the advantages of a growth industry, and the packaging industry has generally maintained growth; the packaging printing industry has been listed by the municipal government as a traditional characteristic advantageous industry, an important part of the city's "5+5N" important industrial system and an important part of Wenzhou's equipment manufacturing industry. The pace of exporting packaging products, equipment, raw and auxiliary materials and packaging technology has accelerated, and market shares at home and abroad have kept rising, effectively enhancing the status of the packaging industry. The packaging industry has also further improved its industrial pattern, which mainly consists of packaging machinery, paper product packaging, plastic packaging and packaging printing and covers packaging machinery, packaging design, packaging equipment manufacturing, packaging product production, packaging materials and packaging logistics. Packaging enterprises are transforming from packaging manufacturing to "Internet+", with obvious digital and intelligent upgrading of the industry and markedly improved technical levels.

Judging from the sample data collected in the first half of this year, as well as the federation's multiple surveys and enterprise visits in the first half of the year, the packaging machinery industry has maintained a good development momentum; in the paper packaging industry, due to severe homogenization and fierce competition, some enterprises have incurred losses, and there is imbalance within the industry and among enterprises. However, overall market demand is stable, and the heat of enterprise production orders has basically not diminished. At the same time, it can be seen that the pace of overseas economic recovery is accelerating, the support of external demand for exports is strengthening, and the export situation of special packaging equipment maintains stable growth. E-commerce sales are also rising continuously, the growth of the industry's digital economy and intelligent manufacturing is accelerating, and entrepreneurs' enthusiasm for investment has increased somewhat.
