3 Packaging of flat paper
a. Flat paper may be packaged by the following six methods:
b. Wooden clamp board packaging;
c. Wooden case or carton packaging;
d. Strip wooden clamp board packaging;
e. Frame board packaging;
f. Flexible packaging;
g. Folded and interleaved packaging.
3.1 Wooden clamp board packaging
3.1.1 When wooden clamp board packaging is used, the paper shall be made up into small packets, each containing 500, 250 or 125 sheets.
The small packets shall be wrapped in one layer of wrapping paper with a sizing degree of not more than 30 and a grammage of not less than 60 g, or kraft paper with a grammage of not less than 40 g. Both ends of the wrapping paper shall be folded over the ends of the packet.
3.1.2 The net weight of each package of flat paper shall be not more than 250 kg, or as specified in the order contract.
3.1.3 Outer packaging
Paper packages made up of small packets must be wrapped in not fewer than three layers of 80 g wrapping paper or four layers of 80 g kraft paper.
Both ends of the wrapping paper shall be folded over the ends of the package and sealed securely.
When printing paper is packaged, the second layer of wrapping paper must be moisture-proof paper, or plastic film must be used for moisture protection.
3.1.4 Baling
The paper package shall be placed between two wooden clamp boards, with a layer of moisture-proof paper or plastic film and a layer of 310 yellow board, or other substitute packaging, interleaved between them.
The wooden clamp boards shall meet the following requirements:
The thickness of the wooden clamp board shall be not less than 12 mm, and the wood battens on its face shall be not less than 70 mm wide and not less than 30 mm thick, or not less than 80 mm wide and not less than 24 mm thick.
The length and width of the wooden clamp board shall be 5-10 mm larger than the dimensions of the paper;
The moisture content of the wooden clamp board shall not exceed 20%;
The surface of the wooden clamp board shall be flat, nails must not protrude above its surface, gaps between boards shall not exceed 5 mm, and there shall be no holes larger than 30 mm in diameter in the board face;
One wood batten and several cross battens shall be added to each wooden clamp board; the number of cross battens depends on the length of the paper — four for lengths of 1000 mm or more and three for lengths below 1000 mm;
If necessary, appropriate measures to facilitate forklift loading and unloading may be adopted in accordance with the order contract.
Hoops or wire of gauge 10 or heavier shall be used for baling. The hoops (wire) must be tied at the centre of the wood battens, without deviation and with uniform tightness; when wire is used, care must be taken to prevent the wire from cutting into the boards and loosening the packaging. The twisted ends of the wire must face outwards, the twist shall not exceed 100 mm in length, and after tightening the twisted end shall be bent through 90° and driven into the wooden battens. When hoops are used, a groove shall be cut at the corners where the hoop meets the board face so that the hoop is recessed, and the joints of the hoop shall be secured with buckles or by overlapping. Baling shall be firm, so that the wrapping paper does not burst and the paper does not become skewed under slight external force.
3.2 Wooden case or carton packaging
3.2.1 The paper shall be made up into small packets in accordance with 3.1.1 of this standard.
Before packing, the wooden case or carton shall first be lined with a layer of moisture-proof paper or plastic film and a layer of kraft paper of 40-60 g/m2; if required, a layer of 310 g/m2 yellow board may also be added.
After the paper is put into the case, the ends of the wrapping paper protruding above the case shall be folded over the paper package, and then a sheet of wrapping paper and a layer of moisture-proof paper or plastic film shall be laid on top of it.
3.2.2 The lid of the wooden case shall be pressed flat and secured tightly with two hoops or nylon woven straps.
3.2.3 The style and dimensions of the wooden case or carton shall be as specified in the order contract.
3.3 Strip wooden clamp board packaging
3.3.1 The paper shall be made up into small packets in accordance with 3.1.1 of this standard, and the paper package shall then be given its outer packaging.
3.3.2 The packaging boards shall be made up of slats not less than 12 mm thick and not less than 80 mm wide, with face battens not less than 24 mm thick and not less than 80 mm wide. When the strip wooden clamp boards are assembled, the gap between adjacent slats shall be about 80 mm.
3.3.3 Outer packaging: in accordance with 3.1.3 of this standard.
3.3.4 Baling: in accordance with 3.1.4 of this standard.
3.4 Frame board packaging
3.4.1 The paper shall be made up into small packets in accordance with 3.1.1 of this standard, and the paper package shall then be given its outer packaging.
3.4.2 The frame board is a wooden frame with a double crossbar (a shape resembling the Chinese character for "sun"), made from battens 15-20 mm thick and not less than 80 mm wide. The moisture content of the battens shall not exceed 20%. The crossbars must be positioned 80-100 mm from the edges, and the central crossbar must sit essentially at the centre between the two edge bars. The battens must be fastened firmly with nails, and the nails shall be bent over and sunk flush with the wood. The length of a nail must equal the thickness of the pieces being nailed plus 6-11 mm of bent length.
3.4.3 Outer packaging: in accordance with 3.1.3 of this standard.
3.4.4 Baling: in accordance with 3.1.4 of this standard.
3.5 Flexible packaging
For intra-city transport or short-distance out-of-town transport by truck, paper may be made up into packages by the flexible packaging method.
3.5.1 For paper packages using flexible packaging, the paper shall be made up into small packets in accordance with 3.1.1 of this standard. The package shall be wrapped in five layers of wrapping paper with a grammage of not less than 60 g/m2 and a sizing degree of not less than 1 mm, or three layers of kraft paper with a grammage of not less than 80 g/m2 and a sizing degree of not less than 1.25 mm.
3.5.2 When printing paper, cover paper, writing paper, drawing paper and the like are packaged, a layer of moisture-proof paper or plastic film shall be interleaved.
3.5.3 The wrapping paper and the moisture-proof paper or plastic film shall be folded over both ends of the package and then fastened securely with strong glue or adhesive tape.
3.6 Folded and interleaved packaging
The folded and interleaved packaging method is suitable for wrapping paper, and other paper grades may also use it as required.
3.6.1 For folded and interleaved packaging, the stack of paper shall be divided by height into two approximately equal parts. The upper part shall be moved to the point half the length of the paper, the exposed lower half of the paper shall be folded upwards, and the upper half that was moved aside shall then be folded on top of it. After folding, the package shall be wrapped in three sheets of wrapping paper with a grammage of not less than 60 g/m2, or two sheets of kraft paper with a grammage of not less than 80 g/m2. The ends of the wrapping paper shall be folded onto the surface of the package, which shall then be tied with cord once lengthwise and twice crosswise. Cardboard strips shall be interleaved at the corners of the package.
3.6.2 The gross weight of a folded and interleaved paper package shall not exceed 55 kg.
