A stand-up spout pouch is a modern flexible plastic package that stands out for being compact, effective in presentation, foldable and recyclable. Its bottom has a horizontal support structure so it stands on its own; it can take a zipper or a straw, is pressed from PET and other materials, and an extra protective layer can be added.

Soymilk packaging takes forms such as single-layer plastic bags, spout pouches, stand-up spout pouches, composite plastic packs, PET bottles, gable-top cartons, Tetra Pak cartons and cans. Quality control hinges on the sterilisation process: aseptic and vacuum packing are the two common methods, and leading manufacturers use the instantaneous ultra-high-temperature sterilisation of aseptic packaging.

A stand-up spout pouch can be closed again and reopened, and can be seen as a stand-up pouch combined with an ordinary bottle mouth. It holds liquids, gels and semi-solids such as beverages, body wash, shampoo, tomato sauce, cooking oil and jelly, and is spreading into washing products, daily cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Its advantage lies in portability.

Foil packaging pouches serve two broad areas. In food, they protect the aroma, quality, flavour and colour of milk, rice, meat products, dried fish, frozen foods, seasonings and more. In industry and electronics, they pack circuit boards, PC boards, ICs, electronic components, SMT placement and light bars in the LED industry, precision hardware and auto parts.

A spout pouch consists of two parts, the spout and the stand-up bag. The bag part matches an ordinary four-seal stand-up pouch in construction but usually uses composite materials. It combines the reclosure of a PET bottle with the style of a composite foil pack, offers a display area clearly larger than a PET bottle, and its key advantage is portability.

Bag breakage in spout pouch production occurs mainly at bag making and spout insertion. Punching, bottom gusset forming and bottom sealing need close attention, and the joint between four layers and two layers is the most breakage-prone area, calling for an extra heat-sealing bar. A spout pouch also needs good opening performance, low surface friction and no static.

Food packaging material basics: the inner layer is usually PE or CPP, the outer layer PA or PET, the middle layer possibly EVOH or PVDC, and aluminised film or aluminium foil is also used. PP and PE contain no plastic additives; PE and CPP seal easily, PA and PET print well, PVDC and EVOH offer good barrier properties, and aluminised film and foil block light.

The environmental direction for spout pouches comes down to three trends: harmlessness, composting and reduction at source. Degradable pouches biodegrade into harmless fragments after landfill burial, composting gains ground as landfill and incineration face restrictions, and reduction aims to cut production, resource use and waste at the source.

A foil pouch uses aluminium foil as its functional layer. Its matte surface does not absorb light, and its multi-layer build gives it strong light-blocking and barrier properties along with oil resistance and softness. It is non-toxic, has no particular odour, usually adopts a four-layer structure with water and oxygen barrier performance, and can be made to measure in flat, stand-up and gusseted styles.

Sealing defects on foil pouches fall into two groups: seals that are not tight enough, and seals that wrinkle or blister. Weak seals usually trace back to low sealing temperature, insufficient pressure or an unstable sealing material, while wrinkling and blistering relate to the heat resistance of the material, the adhesive and ink, residual solvent, and the condition of the sealing bars.
