Bobst Launches New MASTER 6003 Gravure Press
- Bobst has launched the MASTER 6003 gravure press with key upgrades to its ink supply system and automation functions to help packaging printers address shrinking order batch sizes, rising material losses and insufficient changeover efficiency.
- The MASTER 6003 features the LeanPrint® ink supply system, which optimizes flow-channel and piping design from ink trough to ink pan to cut ink consumption by 60% during the printing cycle and reduce solvent consumption by up to 40% through a smaller ink exposure area.
- On automation, the press has a new ink-pan moving mechanism for precise ink-pan positioning at high operating speeds with less manual fine-tuning, and each printing unit adds an automated pre-cleaning system that removes dried ink from cells within 1 minute to shorten changeover preparation.
- The press integrates ink metering and energy-consumption monitoring to display real-time per-order ink consumption, circulating ink volume, remaining reserve ink and estimated ink requirement, while monitoring electricity and compressed-air usage to improve production-data transparency and meet environmental regulatory and customer traceability requirements.
- The redesigned auxiliary trolley supports multi-directional loading and unloading of ink troughs and is equipped with a reference positioning system that precisely aligns the printing cylinder according to cylinder circumference, reducing the physical strain of handling and clamping.
Bobst has recently introduced the new MASTER 6003 gravure press, with key upgrades to its ink supply system and automation functions, helping packaging printers address issues such as shrinking order batch sizes, rising material losses, and insufficient changeover efficiency.
The new machine features the LeanPrint® ink supply system, which optimizes the flow channel and piping design from the ink trough to the ink pan, reducing ink consumption during the printing cycle by 60%; with a smaller ink exposure area, solvent consumption can be reduced by up to 40%, helping to reduce waste of raw and auxiliary materials and process waste.
In terms of automation, the equipment is equipped with a new ink pan moving mechanism that enables precise positioning of the ink pan at high operating speeds, reducing manual fine-tuning. Each printing unit also adds an automated pre-cleaning system for the printing cylinder that can simultaneously remove dried ink from the cells, with the cleaning process completed within 1 minute, shortening changeover preparation time.
The new machine also integrates ink metering and energy consumption monitoring functions, displaying in real time the ink consumption for each order, circulating ink volume, remaining reserve ink volume, and estimated ink requirement, while simultaneously monitoring electricity and compressed air usage, enhancing production data transparency and meeting environmental regulatory and customer traceability requirements.
The redesigned auxiliary trolley supports multi-directional loading and unloading of ink troughs and is equipped with a reference positioning system that enables precise alignment of the printing cylinder according to the cylinder circumference, reducing the physical strain of handling and clamping.
Davide Rossello, Bobst's R&D Manager for Gravure Processes, said that the new machine builds on a mature gravure platform to strengthen consumption reduction, automation, and data traceability capabilities, with the goal of improving the overall economic efficiency of gravure printing without changing customers' working habits.
