New Beijing Takeout Packaging Rules: China's first local standard for green packaging by food delivery merchants, the Guidelines for the Use of Green Packaging by Food Delivery Merchants (DB11/T 2510-2026), has been officially implemented since September 1, 2026. The standard classifies menu items into two categories, simple packaging and sealed packaging, and specifies concrete requirements such as paper bags for buns and pastries and sealed meal boxes with locking clasps for soup noodles, aiming to reduce excessive packaging.
New National Standard for Express Packaging: the Requirements for Restricting Excessive Packaging of Express Delivery came into effect on July 1, 2026, specifying that the number of packaging layers for non-fragile and non-breakable items should not exceed 2, and for fragile and breakable items should not exceed 4, and taking carton fit and the amount of sealing tape used as key indicators.
Industry Plan Open for Comment: the China Packaging Federation is soliciting opinions and suggestions on the China Packaging Industry Development Plan (2026-2030); preliminary research was completed by June and the plan has entered the public consultation stage, as the industry moves from "scale expansion" toward "quality and efficiency."
