Nine Dragons Paper to Lift Base Paper Prices by Another 100-150 Yuan/Tonne at Six Bases from November 1
On October 26, leading enterprise Nine Dragons Paper (Holdings) Limited issued six price increase notices in a row, notifying that the full range of kraft linerboard, corrugated paper and white-top/coated linerboard from its six major production bases would rise by 100-150 yuan/tonne on top of the original basis. The largest increase was at the Taicang base, which raised prices uniformly by 150 yuan/tonne, while the other bases raised prices by 100 yuan/tonne.
This is the sixth round of price increases issued by Nine Dragons since the Mid-Autumn Festival. Taking Dongguan Nine Dragons as an example, from September 24 to November 1 the cumulative increase in carton base paper has reached as high as 750-900 yuan/tonne. At this pace, paperboard and cartons will rise in price again~~~
According to analysis by Longzhong Information, on October 25 corrugated paper and containerboard prices mostly ran steadily. Large-scale paper mills mainly held prices steady and waited, while a scattering of small and medium mills quietly offered discounts of 50-100 yuan. The power rationing policy in Zhejiang eased slightly, and paper mill operating rates rebounded slightly; paper enterprises in Jiangsu, Guangdong, Fujian and other places still operated at low levels. It will be hard for the supply side to improve in the short term; downstream paperboard and carton plants hold mid-to-high inventories and purchase fairly rationally. The waste yellow board market turned from strong to weak, weakening support from the cost side. Longzhong Information said that on October 26 the finished paper market continued its pattern of overall stability with minor fluctuations, and market trading should be closely watched going forward.
